Mid-Century Walnut Wardrobe Designed by Bohumil Landsman for Jitona Soběslav, Czechoslovakia, 1960s

This wardrobe was designed by Bohumil Landsman and manufactured in the 1960s by the Czechoslovak furniture maker Jitona Soběslav. The model is an excellent example of Czechoslovak Mid-Century Modern design, distinguished by its elegant, clean-lined form, slender legs, and striking doors veneered in beautifully figured walnut, arranged in a symmetrical book-matched grain pattern. The sides are finished in ash veneer, while the structural elements are crafted from solid beech wood. A distinctive feature of the piece is its subtle gilt aluminium fittings, which enhance its refined appearance.

The interior is thoughtfully divided into two sections. The right-hand compartment features a hanging rail for garments, while the left-hand section is fitted with a second hanging rail and two practical pull-out drawers. A mirror mounted on the inside of one of the doors has been replaced with a new one during the restoration.

The wardrobe has undergone comprehensive woodworking restoration. The wooden elements were stripped of the old coating, and finished with high-quality Danish oil, which enhances the natural beauty of the wood grain while providing an elegant satin finish.
